Dan Hicken
Channel 12 Sports Anchor

Dan began working at 12 News (now known as First Coast News, airing in Jacksonville on both NBC12 and ABC25) as an intern immediately after graduating from the University of Florida He was promoted to sports producer in September 1988 weekend sports anchor in June 1988, and sports director in March 1991.

Dan has won several awards for his work at First Coast News News Including an Emmy for his series on Jacksonville’s quest for a NFL team and an award for the best sportscast in the state In 1992

Since the arrival of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dan’s already busy schedule has become even more hectic. As sports director of the Jaguars official television station during the team’s first six years of existence, Dan had been involved in countless Jaguars shows and reports. He is now host to numerous sports related specials and First Coast News Sunday Sports Final.

Dan is marned to Reagan, a local school teacher and has 3 beautiful children: Danielle, Drew and Brooks.

His community affilations include Church of the Redeemer, Tom Coughlin’s Jay Fund and the Otis Smith Foundation. In what little free time he has, Dan enjoys all sports (of course), and reading.

Notes

There were several announcements as follow:

* A Dove Shoot will be tentatively scheduled for September in Southern Georgia. Dove season is from Sept. 6-21 in Georgia.
* Jerry Spence - Director of Club Administration updated the group on the latest information, including a new club website that would be available next week.
* Ham Cooke reminded the group of the opportunity to serve at the Salzbacher Center on Saturday August 23rd.
* A board meeting was scheduled after the regular meeting
* Robert Overly returned from Panama and brought a Rotary banner back to the group to commemorate his trip.

Jimmy Kelly, Program Director, introduced Cole Pepper as the Guest speaker. Cole is the Sports Director for WOKV radio and the voice of the Jaguars. He briefed the group on updates in regards to how the Jaguars would fair in the upcoming season, as well as information regarding the GA/FLA game and an interesting opportunity for JU as they travel to Appalachian State. Cole took questions from the group and provided riveting and entertaining comments as well.
