Interact

West Jacksonville is an active supporter of the Interact Club at Bishop Snyder HS Interact Club.

Angel Tree - We have supported the club financially this year with their Angel Tree project in coordination with Community Connections for the 2nd year in a row. Each year, approximately 300 families are served by Community Connections’ housing programs that provide housing and support services, job training services, and counselors to individuals and families for up to 24 months. This year, the Interact club increased their commitment by 50% and provided 140 Christmas gifts for 20 families with 28 children. Our club provided, among other things, two new bicycles as children’s gifts.

Wounded Warrior Project - For their spring project, BSHS Interact Club sponsored a silver war to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. They got the idea when attending one of our regular meetings where the Executive Director of the Project was our speaker. The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is to raise public awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members to aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. In the silver war, the various grade levels competed with each other by placing money in containers marked by grade level. Coins counted as one point per cent, but bills counted double. After the first two days $600 was raised. The West Jax Rotary pledged a $500 matching contribution for the final two days. The students’ response was overwhelming, contributing an additional $1,100. A total of $2,200 was presented to Jeff Searcy, Executive Vice President of The Wounded Warriors Project at the conclusion of the school’s Ash Wednesday Mass. These funds will pay for 22 backpacks to be given to soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Career Day - An annual tradition, the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville has a lunch meeting on the BSHS campus. At the conclusion of the meeting, Rotary members go to classrooms to educate students on our vocations and Rotary ideals.
