Officer Robert B. Freitas Officer Robert Freitas is with the Community Affairs division of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He was named Police Officer of the Month for December for his efforts in organizing the Florida Police and Fire Athletic Games.
Jacksonville had not hosted these games in fifteen (15) years, but last year, and again this upcoming spring, Jacksonville was named to host the games for police officers, correctional officers and fire fighters throughout the State of Florida. Officer Freitas was responsible for preparing the City's bid for the games, and once securing the bid, for locating hotels, recruiting volunteers, and identifying and securing venues for the sporting events to take place.
This involved hosting nearly five thousand (5,000) people, organizing fifty-two (52) different sporting events throughout the City, and arranging for many JSO coordinators to assist in putting on the games, all of whom have reported to Officer Frietas.
As it turned out, the 2005 Games were hugely successful. Not only did the games promote camaraderie and provide a good environment for networking, they resulted in a four-million dollar ($4,000,000) economic impact to the City of Jacksonville. None of this would have been possible without Officer Frietas' hard work, and, in the words of his superior officer, his "proven organizational skills and ability to get things done."
Accordingly, due to his outstanding efforts, and for his excellent service to our community, we are proud to honor Officer Freitas as Police Office of the Month.
