Detective Rodney S. McKean Detective Rodney S. McKean is with the Cold Case Homicide Unit of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He was named Police Officer of the Month for October for his continuing efforts in solving two notorious cases in Jacksonville.
The first case involves the disappearance of John Rowan in 2001. Mr. Rowan was a local businessman who had emigrated from Ireland, and was the father of a young family. His vehicle was discovered in an Orlando parking lot thirty days after he disappeared, and foul play is suspected.
The second case involves the 1998 abduction of Kamiyah Mobley, who disappeared only eight hours after her birth at University Medical Center.
Both of these cases are tragic and were highly publicized. Both cases have involved thousands of leads and the coordination of efforts with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, ATF, Customs and local police forces in and outside the State of Florida
Even though the cases are no longer in the spotlight, Detective McKean continues to aggressively follow-up on leads and is in constant contact with the families, updating them on the status of the investigations. He is, in the words of his superior officer, "my very best detective, with a superior work ethic, investigative standard, and enthusiasm rarely displayed in my 26 years with this agency."
As a result of his outstanding efforts and professionalism, and for his excellent service to our community, we are proud to recognize Detective McKean as Police Office of the Month.
