Detective Samuel D. Koivisto
Detective Samuel D. Koivisto is with the Auto Theft Unit of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He was named Police Officer of the Month this past August in connection with his role in breaking up an auto theft ring here in town.

On March 12, 2005, a burglary was committed at a local business. Over $400,000 in merchandise was stolen, including high performance vehicle engines, engine parts and accessories.

Through a series of interviews and good detective work, Detective Koivisto was able to identify a residence where the stolen goods might be stashed. On March 30, 2005 he organized a stakeout of the residence and determined that individuals visiting the residence left with auto parts. On that same day, he obtained a search warrant for the residence and discovered some of the missing parts.

Not only did his actions help break up the ring and lead to multiple arrests, he was also able to recover $70,000 in stolen merchandise.

Detective Koivisto's actions in this case exemplify the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office core values: Community Focus, Always Improving, and Worthy of Trust.

As a result of his outstanding efforts and professionalism, and for his excellent service to our community, we are proud to recognize Detective Koivisto as Police Officer of the Month.
